Colorado State Patrol Seeking the Public’s Help

Hit-and-run in Mesa County

(MESA COUNTY, COLO) - On August 24, 2026, at approximately 2:12 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian on Highway 139 at milepost 1 (south of Loma, CO).

Preliminary reports indicate a 35-year-old male was seated in the middle of the northbound lane of Highway 139 at milepost 1. An unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Highway 139 at milepost 1. The northbound vehicle struck the pedestrian and dragged the pedestrian for approximately 130 feet. The vehicle then fled the scene.

The pedestrian was transported to a local area hospital by ground ambulance with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead. The Mesa County Coroner will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin has been identified.

The Colorado State Patrol is seeking the public’s help in identifying a vehicle of interest believed to be involved in this incident. The vehicle is a light-colored SUV-type vehicle.

The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crime Unit is leading the investigation.
