Suspect Apprehended After Colorado State Trooper Vehicles Hit by Gunfire on US 24; Shelter-in-Place Lifted

Description: A suspect has been apprehended after two Colorado State Patrol vehicles were struck by gunfire on US 24 in Teller County. Troopers were hospitalized, and the shelter-in-place order has been lifted.

9:52am Update: Suspect has been apprehended. Shelter-in-place has been lifted. Please do not interfere with law enforcement in the area as they conduct their investigation.

9:32am Update: MEDIA POOL - media please proceed to the Teller County Sheriff's Office at 11400 US 24 in Divide. Information and briefings will be conducted in the large meeting room on the first floor.

8:25am Update: the suspect is described as tall with facial hair and brown shoulder-lengthed hair wearing blue jeans and a terracotta colored shirt.

This morning two Colorado State Trooper vehicles on US 24 received gunfire from an unknown white male assailant with brownish tinted hair driving a blue Subaru Imprezza hatchback with license plates not visible through tinted covers. 

The suspect fled to the area of Westwood Lakes and Woodland West and may now be on foot. Deputies have cordoned off the area and they and Woodland Park Police are canvassing. The Sheriff Office is also launching their drone to assist in the search. 

The State Troopers self-transported to the hospital and are being treated. We do not have additional information on their condition.

A shelter-in-place order has been instituted. Please remain in your homes if you are in the area of Trout Creek Road and Piney Point Lane. Do not interfere with the Deputies as they conduct their search.
