Cattle Hauler Rollover Crash Closes Interstate 76

The closure will be extended

(Washington County) – On September 15, 2026, at about 2:58 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to Interstate 76 near milepost 102, east of Brush, for a report of a rollover involving a semi hauling cattle.

The initial investigation shows a semi hauling cattle was traveling westbound on Interstate 76 when it entered the center median, rolled, and spilled its cargo. Three additional semis and a passenger vehicle struck cattle.

The driver of the cattle hauler was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment. We have no status on injuries available at this time.

Investigators on scene determined that there were 48 total cattle on the truck pre-crash. Of the 48 cattle, 10 were found dead, 29 were located alive, and currently 9 are unaccounted for.

Interstate 76 is closed in both directions. No estimated time is available for when the road will reopen. Check COTrip.org for updates.
