Fatal Crash on Hwy 71 and Hwy 94
(LINCOLN COUNTY, COLO) - On October 1, 2026, at approximately 05:56 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 71 and Highway 94, south of Limon, CO.
Preliminary reports indicate a 2022 Volvo semi hauling a trailer was traveling eastbound on Highway 94 approaching the intersection with Highway 71. A 2014 brown Buick Enclave was traveling southbound on Highway 71 approaching the intersection with Highway 94. The Volvo semi failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign and struck the Buick's passenger side. Both vehicles went off the roadway and did not block any lane. Emergency vehicles blocked the westbound lane of H94.
The Driver of the Buick, a 45-year-old male out of Model, Colorado, was pronounced dead on scene. The Lincoln County Coroner will release his identification after notifying next of kin. The passenger of the Buick, a 17-year-old female, was transported by air to a metro area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi, a 39-year-old male from Washington state, was transported by ground to a nearby hospital with unknown extent of injuries.
The road was not shut down; traffic was alternating during the investigation. It is now completely open.
The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is the lead agency investigating.
