Driver Arrested on DUI Following Crash Involving Parked Vehicles
On October 6, 2026, at approximately 2:42 a.m., officers with the La Junta Police Department responded to a crash near the intersection of W. 8th Street and Carson Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a heavily damaged Dodge Challenger that had collided with two unoccupied parked vehicles, causing significant damage. During the investigation, officers observed signs of alcohol impairment from the driver, identified as 21-year-old Victoria Sanchez of La Junta.
Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI). During the investigation, officers also developed probable cause for a Harassment charge with a Domestic Violence designation stemming from a related incident. Sanchez was transported to the Otero County Sheriff's Office for booking.
The La Junta Police Department reminds motorists that impaired driving puts everyone on the road at risk. If you plan to drink, arrange for a sober driver or alternative transportation.
All charges are allegations, and Sanchez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
