Letter Questions Koshare Museum Art Sales Connected to Western Heritage Education Foundation Purchase

Description: A La Junta resident expressed concern over whether Koshare Indian Museum paintings were sold to help fund the former Colorado Boys Ranch purchase...

I find the goals of Western Heritage Education Foundation, previously Colorado Boys Ranch, to be admirable, and I hope much success results from their efforts.
However, if the purchase of that property was funded by the sale of paintings owned by the Koshare Indian Museum, I am appalled. It is unthinkable that the beautiful and historic paintings from the Kiva's collection could be sold.
Is that legal? If it's not, I hope the paintings can be returned to the Kiva.
Did members of the Koshare Indian Museum Board of Directors endorse auctioning off paintings in its collection? If so, that Board should become the Board of Directors of the Western Heritage Education Foundation, and the Koshare Indian Museum should get a new Board to protect its collection.
