THE SPACE LADY AT THE MERCURY CAFÉ

Susan Dietrich, internationally known as The Space Lady, performed at the legendary Mercury Café in Denver last week, and this writer had the pleasure of being in the audience.
Susan was introduced by her childhood friend Ann Herron, whose memories of growing up best friends with Susan in Las Animas, entertained the public. A number of friends and family were there to support Susan’s comeback after the 2-year pandemic shutdown. In spite of the long hiatus, once she began to sing, the audience was enthralled by The Space Lady’s ethereal music.
The young man sitting next to me told me that he had hitch-hiked to Denver from the Western Slope just to hear her, and another young man at the show said he had bicycled from Denver to La Junta to hear her busking on the corner of the park—only to miss her because of rain. He was elated that now he had found her here at “The Merc.”
His enthusiasm was obviously shared by the rest of the public, who gave Susan a resounding ovation and crowded around after the performance to buy recordings and ask for autographs.
