Rocky Ford Police Make Arrest in Assault Involving a Machete

About 11:24pm, 31st May, 2024, Rocky Ford Police Department and the Otero County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1500 block of Elm Avenue, Rocky Ford, for a report of a disturbance between two men involving a machete.

Chief McDonagh and Officer Berig immediately detained 31 year old male suspect, Jorge Villegos, on arrival and with the Spanish speaking skills of Sergeant Pina, were able to ascertain the necessary information from the 61 year old male victim, to formally arrest Jorge.

Jorge was transported to AVRMC for injuries noted on arrival by investigating officers.

After medical treatment, Jorge is being transported to the Bent County Sheriff’s Office jail and is being charged by Rocky Ford Police with felony menacing, 1st degree burglary and 3rd degree assault and criminal mischief.

While on scene, Rocky Ford Police were approached by a female party who claimed she had an active warrant for her arrest and wanted to hand herself in. The female party was run and the warrant confirmed. With our resources stretched, Otero County Sheriff’s Office assisted us with that female party and the transport to the Bent County Sheriff’s Office.

Thank you to the Otero County Sheriff’s Office for having our six on dangerous calls like this, and assisting with the language barrier when our very own Officer Montano is out of office. We appreciate the continued team work that our agencies share.
