Letter to the Editor: Rocky Ford Police Chief Sean McDonagh

Since commencing as the Chief at the Rocky Ford Police Department in July, 2023, I’ve been working tirelessly on many aspects of the Department. 

Building and fostering a strong relationship with the community has been high on that list. To achieve this, we need help from the community. We can only achieve so much on our own. 

I have been investigating matters of concern to both the Department and the community, as part of my role as the new Chief. In maintaining transparency and ensuring thorough and independent investigations, I have and will continue to involve the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and other independent law enforcement agencies, to assist with resolving any matters that may come to my attention.

While recent news may be seen as negative to the Department, I see it as me performing the role that the community of Rocky Ford expected of me and why I was placed in this position - to work through issues at the Department, project us into a better place and be the Police Department that you deserve and have waited far too long to have. 

The bottom line is, I won’t allow the Department to move in any direction but forward. Please, work with me and help me achieve this goal, by being part of the solution, not the problem. It’ll require team work and the community to stand behind us. We need you as much as you need us.
