**UPDATE** Highway 550 Fatal Crash

Preliminary crash details

(OURAY, COLO) - This is an update on the April 6, 2026 crash on Highway 550 at milepost 103 (south of Ridgway, CO).

The preliminary crash report indicates that the Dodge Caravan was traveling westbound on Highway 550. The Ford F350, which was pulling a gooseneck flatbed trailer with a skid steer was traveling eastbound on Highway 550. The Dodge Caravan drifted over the center line into the eastbound lane. The Ford F350 attempted to avoid the collision by steering to the right. The Dodge Caravan's front left corner impacted the front left corner of the flatbed trailer. After the impact, the Dodge Caravan traveled off the westbound shoulder and ended in the ditch, and the Ford 350 ended up blocking the eastbound lane. After the impact, the trailer detached from the Ford 350, causing the skid steer to roll off the trailer, and the trailer ended up in the ditch.

The Dodge Caravan did not have a rear seat. All three occupants in the Dodge Caravan were unrestrained. The driver of the Dodge Caravan was pronounced dead on scene. The other two occupants of the Dodge Caravan were transported to a local area hospital. Both occupants had serious injuries.

Highway 550 at milepost 103 was closed in both directions for over five hours.

The crash remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit.
