The Bent's Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association sends congratulations to David Beyreis who will be a featured speaker at the Santa Fe Trail 200th Symposium with his presentation titled "Business, Politics and Power on the Santa Fe Trail: The Transcontinental World of Bent, St. Vrain and Company, 1829-1849".
David recently received an award from the Historical Society of New Mexico for his new book, "Blood in the Borderlands: Conflict, Kinship and the Bent Family, 1821-1920." Recognized as the outstanding publication in 2020 focusing on New Mexico or Southwest Borderlands history, the book provides a significant contribution to the scholarship of New Mexico and Western history, providing deep coverage of one of the region’s most significant families. The book, a well-researched and meticulously documented narrative, is noted for its balanced perspective on an epoch marked by extreme inter-cultural complexity.
