Minute by minute

October 5th meeting found 18 members in attendance at the First Christian Church in La Junta. President Alvin  Grim started the meeting at 7:00p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Rethabel Huff opened the meeting with  prayer. Rethabel Huff motioned to accept the minutes from September 7th by acting secretary Chuck Donkle with a second by Chuck Donkle. Motion passed. THANK YOU, CHUCK, for recording the minutes! Treasurer’s report was given by Carol Allen. Leonard Walgren motioned to accept as reported with a second from James Huff. Motion passed.

Welcome New Members – Andrew Brassfield, Las Animas was present. New members but unable to attend were Brian Edwards & Suzann Bryant, Las Animas, Gary & Tiffany Miller, La Junta and Jerry & Debbie Henderson, La Junta.

Old Business – James Huff reported on the First Annual Cruisin into Fall car show held in Rocky Ford. There was a total of 22 cars and 8 of those were club members! Those attending and winning recognition were Alvin Grim (most unique), Tom Rider (best customized) Larry Miller (most original) Leonard Walgren (1st prize antique vehicle). Jimmie Martinez thought it would be a good idea to go over the Southeast Colorado Antique Vehicle Club’s recent car show held in the La Junta city park. With having problems three years in a row getting a food wagon Jimmie Martinez felt that what the club done this year worked out great! Selling slices of pizza to members which helped pay for the pizza itself. Many years ago, the club would have a horse tank and fill with ice & drink. In the future the club could offer slices of pizza/drink by Donation only to attendees.

Rethabel Huff mentioned that the goody bags were great; Great idea to go to NAPA, Car Quest and O’Reilly for vehicle-related items. Any more stores are stretched thin on donations. some members brought extra cars to show off. Thirty cars and 3 tractors participated.

Members discussed that it would be nice knowing how many enthusiasts attended this year’s car show and in the future. And for the chamber of commerce to have an idea of how many the SCAV club draws in.

***Chuck Donkle is the caretaker all the SCAV clubs banners, flags, plaques, gift bag supplies, etc. Chuck is in need of donation containers for future events. Doug and Missy Ricken have helped out each year setting up their PA system for the car show. Motion was made by Karen Menges and seconded by Chuck Donkle to purchase a gift certificate for their much-appreciated help.

New Business – James Huff mentioned November is the month to vote in new officers – The club is looking for a new President to replace Alvin Grim, as Alvin will move into the Vice Pres. Spot, Karen Menges will keep secretary and Carol Allen will continue as treasurer. Leonard Walgren will take a board position.

Christmas dinner will be December 7th starting at 6:00p.m. – Jimmie Martinez felt we need to shop around for places to hold our dinner now that COVID has slowed down some and businesses have opened back up.

The manager of Sonic asked Chuck Donkle if the car club would be interested in a Sonic Cruise Night either this fall or next year sometime. The club would get 10% of the sales from 6:00-9:00p.m. Tabled until next year.

James Huff motioned to donate To the Kim Equine Center for using their facilities. Rethabel Huff second the motion. Motion passed. Meeting ended at 7:52p.m.
