Otero College Music to Host Lycos Brass for Masterclass and Concert

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ......................................................... November 9, 2021

LA JUNTA — On Thursday, Nov. 18, the faculty brass quintet of Colorado State University – Pueblo, Lycos Brass, will be giving the public an opportunity to attend a masterclass as well as see them perform live. The masterclass will begin at 4 p.m. with the concert to follow at 7 p.m. Both events will take place in the Ed Stafford Theatre. Admission is free and open to the community.

At 4 p.m. the group will present a masterclass that will be an interactive session between the group members and anyone who wishes to attend the class. They will talk about music and how it’s created, discuss musical interpretation, instrumental technique and performance strategies and is an opportunity that allows the public a window into the mind of the performers.

Lycos Brass will then follow up the class with a performance that will begin at 7 p.m. This is a great opportunity to hear live music from semi-local artists whose musicianship is top caliber. For those who attend the masterclass, it will also be a great way to experience what was discussed.

Dr. James Lind, Otero Lead Music Faculty, shared, “I am excited to have the Colorado State University-Pueblo Brass Quintet come to campus. They are an amazing group, great musicians, and all-around great people. I know many of them personally. The masterclass and concert they will perform on our campus will be a great opportunity to experience live music once again but also to learn more about the opportunities for music study here at Otero and beyond. What is it like to study music? Come and get a sneak peek!”

The music program at Otero College is a transferable associate of arts degree. It is a traditional liberal arts education with a focus on arts and humanities, communication, or social sciences. The program is designed for students who are planning to transfer to a four-year institution.

For more information on the event or the music program, please contact James Lind at 719-384-6872, email james.lind@otero.edu or visit the Otero music website at www.otero.edu/music.
