Obituary

Cora Mae Vandetti, 90, passed peacefully into the arms of her savior November 19, 2021 at her La Junta home with family and friends around her.

Cora Mae was born in Springfield, CO on November 23, 1930 to Walter Thomas & Lula Mae (Parrish) Johnson. She lived and was raised in Kim, CO until 1944 when her family moved to La Junta, CO. She is survived by her sister, Katie Louise (Johnson) Kirchoff; son, Larry Vandetti; daughter, LuAnn (Vandetti) Trumble; grandsons, Jeremy Trumble (Jessica), Robby Trumble and Tyler Trumble (Santana); and great-grandson Joseph Trumble. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Walter La Vern Johnson, and husband, Johnnie Vandetti.

Cora Mae attended and graduated from La junta high school in 1949. After graduation, she enjoyed working at Montgomery Ward and the Wiswell Creamery, both in La Junta. She married Johnnie Vandetti, from La Junta in 1951 on February 2, Groundhog Day and celebrated 69 years of marriage in 2020. She worked at Citizens Utilities Gas Co for several years after marrying, until her children were born in 1954 and 1956. From that point on she stayed home to tend to her family. Our mother loved being outdoors and was always ready to go anywhere to enjoy God’s beautiful nature and scenery. She was a collector of any and everything she came across, a true artist at heart. She was an active and dedicated member of Our Lady of Guadalupe & St. Patrick Parish. Her family will miss her dearly.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta with Father Victor Raj officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.

The family would like to thank caregivers Margaret Espinoza and Michelle Likes and the Arkansas Valley Hospice for their efforts, care, and dedication to their mother.
