Obituary

Geraldine Ellen Dell, 82, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Thursday, November 18th, at Memorial Health System Central, Colorado Springs, El Paso County.

Geraldine was born in Rocky Ford, CO on November 21, 1938, a daughter of the late Vivian Ellen (Corf) and George Grasmick. She was the eldest of their 5 children.

She married the love of her life Clyde Dell at 18 years old after graduating from Rocky Ford High school on July 28, 1957 and made a long life together with both joy and troubles.

With a name meaning spearhead you could say she lived up to name, fighting hard for her 3 children and 4 grandchildren. While her main profession would be called homemaker, her early life was as a farmer’s daughter and she worked hard until illness blocked her from being outside so she assisted her mother with larger household chores and attending to her younger siblings. She would often recall even in late age that she HAD to check up on her younger brother, now long a grandfather, because of that imperative set upon her at an early age as the eldest’s responsibility. Likewise for younger sister they made many adventures but in old age turned to doctor’s appointments topped with all important ice cream. In 1970 she would support her husband’s endeavor to return to farming by working the land as he worked a full-time trucking job though the effort did not bear fruit. She was a fiery woman with a peculiar and often arguably morbid since of humor, and sometimes unintentional humor as well. In 1989 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and defeated it once through long chemo therapy only for it to return years later but met with victory once again despite the loss of both breasts.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by Husband Clyde, daughter Terri, sons Kerry(Illeene Case) and Roy, brother George Donald Grasmick, sister Janice (Dave Crosson), 4 grandchildren, one great grandchild, three step grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceded in death by Brothers Ron and David Grasmick, beloved best friend and sister-in-law Judy Grasmick, parents and in-laws.

Services will be held at a later time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford - Ustick Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.fordustick.com.
