Obituary

Clyde Herbert Dell, 83, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Monday, November 29th, at Parkview Medical Center, Pueblo, Pueblo County.

Clyde was born in Rocky Ford, CO on August 25, 1938, a son of the late Dora (Becker) and Adam Herbert Dell.

Clyde had cheated death multiple times as a child. On one occasion, after seeing Roy Rogers, he decided he would try his hand at trick riding and was tossed off the horses back and was kicked in the head for good measure. He was left unconscious in a field for many hours before he was found and was in a comma for two weeks. Clyde was stubborn though and didn’t let a comma get in his way. One of the traits that people close to Clyde knew well that was formed in childhood was his desire to constantly trade for something else. He would often be told to lie down for a nap only to sneak out of his room, toy in hand, to try and trade it off for some other thing that he wanted. This never ended. Clyde graduated from Rocky Ford High School and married Geraldine almost immediately after on July 28, 1957. He worked hard for his young family and held multiple jobs at once. He eventually carved out a niche as a truck driver, ultimately hauling hazardous materials for Farmland Industries for well over 30 years. One of the memories that is often shared between his children or retold by him was loading everyone, his wife and three children, into the cab and going on a run to California. His boss had given him clearance to take his time so, with five people squeezed into the sleeper cab, they had a family road trip topped off at Disneyland. He loved his family.

Clyde is survived by daughter Terri Leffingwell, sons Kerry(Illeene Case) and Roy Dell, Brothers Will, John(Sandy), and Rick Dell, Sister Sandy Dell, 4 grandchildren, one great grandchild, three step grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceded in death by Father, Mother, in-laws, sister Debbie Hull, sister Barbara and brother-in-law Denny Harris, sister-in-law Judy Dell, and beloved wife Geraldine Dell.

Services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford – Ustick Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.fordustick.com.
