Otero College Ag Gala Shines Bright

LA JUNTA — The Otero College campus was shining bright for the Annual Ag Gala on New Year’s Eve! The night was filled with a beef brisket dinner, live country music by Country Gold, dancing, cash bar, door prizes, and live and silent auctions. With the help of 35 sponsors and the numerous donated auction items, the Otero Agricultural Science Program and Foundation were able to raise just over $16,100 for the Agriculture Scholarships, making this the largest fundraiser yet!

According to the head of the Ag Program, Brooke Matthew, “The Campus was bright on New Year’s as friends, neighbors, colleagues and family rang in the 2022 year. The Otero Foundation and the Agriculture Program would like to thank all the amazing sponsors and donors that made the night possible. The funds raised that evening go directly to agriculture scholarships to students.”

Platinum sponsors include: Colorado Vet Clinic, First National Bank, LPL Financial, Pipeyard, Southeast Health Group, The State Bank, Wallace Oil Company, and Welch Cattle Company. Next, Gold sponsors include: La Junta Livestock, Matthew Farms, Colorado Bank & Trust, Ag Risk Advisor/Silveus, Ordway Cattle Feeders, 4 Rivers Equipment, Winter Livestock, 007 & MJ Cattle, and the Goff Family. Finally other sponsors including: Heimerick Farms, Rob & Colleen Oquist, Dave & Almabeth Kaess, Best Bet Beeflot, and Ricken Land & Cattle.

All proceeds from the Ag Gala benefit students majoring in Agricultural Science at Otero college through the Ag Premier Scholarship. Scholarship recipient Cord Proctor stated, “This scholarship has allowed me to focus on my academics while pursuing my degree in the agriculture industry. I really appreciate the community and the foundation for their support of the Ag Premier Scholarship and helping students like myself, pursue a career in Ag.”

The Otero Ag Program and Foundation is grateful for all the Ag Gala sponsors and their contributions. The continuous support and donations are invaluable, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the Ag Gala on New Year’s Eve in 2022.
