La Junta Fire Department Narrative

"Today at approx 1017 am we responded to 222 Steen on a reported structure fire. Upon arrival Chief Davidson found heavy smoke coming from the roof and eves."

"The crews attempted to fight the fire inside but fire conditions forced them to go back outside and fight the fire with ladder trucks and outside hose lines."

"Mutual aid was called in from Rocky Ford, Cheraw Fire, DFPC Engine 34, and Las Animas Fire Department."

"Once the roof collapsed it made it very hard to extinguish all the hot spots. Rocky Ford Fire also brought their new air trailer and filled air bottles on sight. Temps of 8 degrees and lite winds made conditions very trying as well. The fire is listed as accidental of cause."

"We would also like to thank many of the local business’s and community members who brought us drinks and food and checked on us during the fire."

"TBK Bank, Pizza Hut, Dominos, Carl's Jr, Perkins Motors, Valley Oil for bringing us fuel, Mexico City, Mike Bogner and everyone else who I might have forgotten."
