Minute by minute

By Karen Menges

This year seventeen couples and three singles attended a delicious roast beef dinner for the Valentine’s Dinner at the Ordway VFW. Before the meal was brought out Alvin Grim began to sell tickets for the homemade miniature garage that Jimmie Martinez made. Eighty-one dollars was donated back to the club Thanks to Alvin Grim for this very nice donation!! The LUCKY WINNER was Dan Shake from the Boone area. Andrew Brassfield went before the club members asking for a donation to help an upcoming Easter egg hunt being held in Las Animas.

Rethabel Huff gave the blessing over the meal. Those present enjoyed the meal and visited before the meeting started at 7:14p.m. President Greg Holt opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. James Huff motioned to accept January’s minutes with a second from Carol Allen. Motion passed. Terry Menges motioned to accept the treasurers report which was given by Carol Allen and Jamie Roark seconded the motion. Motion passed.

OLD BUSINESS – At December’s meeting ideas were expressed about the club becoming active having a food and/or toy drive for 2022. Maybe starting the toy drive in November at the Chili/soup supper. Or a food drive per quarter or little gifts for nursing home residents. This was tabled until Feb. meeting. New ideas were school supplies for kids; Priska Shake brought up an ice cream social with nursing home residents and Vicki Marquez mentioned about cleaning a portion of the highway. The club was undecided so it was tabled until next month. Defrost & Debug is being planned by Chuck Donkle and Jimmie Martinez which will take place in April.

NEW BUSINESS – Next month the Ladies will show off what keeps them busy with their hobbies or crafts. Leonard Walgren visited the City of La Junta to get the SE Colorado Antique Vehicle Club registered for upcoming activities taking place at the LJ park– on 6/7/22 Gazebo #3 for the Hamburger fry, on 7/5/22.

Gazebo #3 for the Ice cream social, and on 9/17/22 all 3 Gazebo’s for the SCAVC annual car show.

Facilities reservation forms were handed out to the board members at this meeting. Thank You Leonard Walgren for reserving the city park for these upcoming events.

Kenny Pearson brought up a good point; those that have been given name badges but don’t wear them to the meetings should pay $1.00 to the club. The club has paid to have them made – so wear them.

So, if you haven’t paid your yearly dues – Let’s get them in to Carol Allen this month!!
