Minute by minute

President Greg Holt opened the 7:00p.m. March 1st meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer.

Twenty-eight members were in attendance. Greg Holt asked Bill Allen to talk a little on the Valentine dinner held at the Ordway VFW. Bill Allen also invited the club members to Carol and Bill Allen’s 60th wedding anniversary held from 2:00-4:00. on Sunday March 13th at the Ordway VFW. President Holt asked members if they are receiving their newsletters okay either by e-mail or by snail mail. Motion was made by Leonard Walgren to accept the February minutes with a second from Rose Grim. Motion passed. Carol Allen went over the treasurer’s report as James Huff motioned to accept as presented; Rethabel Huff seconded the motion. Motion passed.

OLD BUSINESS

Tabled from last month was interest in community service projects. Some ideas brought forth were a food drive, school supplies, Hwy clean-up, ice cream social with nursing home residents. Jimmie Martinez felt this being a trial year; the club should focus on one project. -The club can re-evaluate next month. Andrew Brassfield had come before the club asking for help with an Easter Egg Hunt being held in Las Animas. The club passed the hat and Andrew Brassfield had a nice donation from club individuals. Chuck Donkle brought up that the club is for the benefit of the club members and not a service club. Jimmie Martinez thought the board members ought to decide what type of community service the club will do.

Rose Grim motioned that the officers decide with a second from Andrew Brassfield. Motion carried. Rethabel Huff has worked toy drives before and said they are very intensive.

NEW BUSINESS

James Huff brought to the members that Sarah Dillon from Tri-County is working on their annual car show Crusin' Summer in Rocky Ford and would like to know if June 4th or 11th interferes with our plans. James Huff will personally talk to Sarah Dillon. Jimmie Martinez announced that this years Debug & Defrost will be Saturday April 23rd. The tour will be local so members can drive their old cars/trucks and tractors? (Richard Thomas, Doug Bay, Jerry Bay). The tour is on all paved roads from Rocky Ford to Las Animas. THANK YOU, Jimmie Martinez and Chuck Donkle, for putting these fun adventures together each year!

Kenny Pearson just happened to be in a total loss! LOSS of 2 finger tips. And the Bull ended up in the freezer! Other items brought up - Amache Relocation Camp in Granada has become a National Park. Andrew Brassfield warned to watch out for catalytic converter thieves! California air regulators approved strict regulations for aerosol air fresheners, paint thinners and solvents as a way to lessen smog-forming emissions and reduce a health threat. Meeting adjourned at 7:35p.m.

The women had a FUN time showing off their hobby/craft and collections! Not pictured was Patty Bennett with a very ornate sewn jacket and Karen Menges with her collection of Christmas sleighs.
