The Otero County Commissioners approved their minutes from September 21st.

Dee Hostetler from Clean Valley Recycling presented good news to the county commissioners. CDPHE grant funds were awarded for a new truck. Bins, bags, and advertising will also be covered by the $51,000 grant, according to Hostetler. 

Commissioner Goodwin asked how much cardboard was recycled instead of going to the landfill.

Hostetler reported around 300 tons of cardboard is recycled annually. She also said the total of all recyclables diverted from the landfills is approximately 642 tons, or 30 semi loads.

Commissioner Jim Baldwin asked how often the bin in Fowler was emptied.

Hostetler responded that they could try to put another cardboard recycling bin next to the other existing one.

Hostetler reported that Clean Valley Recycling collecting bailing twine from the local agriculture community. She also mentioned FFA volunteers would be paid 10 cents per pound for bailing twine.

Hostetler also announced a new program to accept PVC pipe.

Facilities Project Manager Darrin Garcia presented bids on the flooring replacement at the Rocky Ford Annex Building, one bid from Kelly's Flooring was received, the total is $25,778, which would cover the entire buildings floor.

The commissioners gave 2 weeks and one day to review the bid, then it will be presented again to the board.

Garcia followed up on the interior paint bids on the Rocky Ford Annex Building. He recommended Lenny's Painting from Rocky Ford. Their total bid was $10,600.

Garcia reported it would be 2-3 weeks until the painter starts the job, and it would take about a week to finish. The commissioners voted to approve accepting the bid.

County Administrator Amy White Tanabe reported over a 13 percent increase in tax revenues collected this year compared to last year. She also said the county should reach 2 million dollars in sales tax revenues.

Tanabe presented a letter of support for signatures to designate Amache Internment Camp as a National Park. 

The commissioners unanimously approved the letter of support.

Commissioner John Hostetler reported that he had a CCI zoom meeting that included much discussion.

Hostetler said the county is gathering information about an emergency response center that would serve the region. They are currently researching the best location among other factors to make the best decision for the counties constituents.

Due to a lack of quorum next weeks meeting has been canceled. Their next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday October 13th.
