Matt Harris has participated in the Special Olympics Colorado for 27 years and has been a repeat medal winner bringing home the Bronze, Silver, and Gold, "but mostly Silver and Gold," according to his mother and coach, Sandra Harris. She has been coaching him for the last four years and is definitely Matt's number one fan. Matt has even competed at Special Olympics in Arizona for two seasons.

He started with the 200M Run, Shot Put, and Running Long Jump, but Matt has also ran the 400M several times in competition. Matt has participated at both regional and state competitions as well as sports outside of track and field. Matt has also competed in bowling, basketball, weight lifting, swimming softball, and even virtual basketball. 

Matt competed in the Tri-Athlon, in which he did the running leg of the medley and his team finished with astounding results. They finished second place out of 92 entries, then followed with victory the next year and earned the Gold ahead of 88 other teams.

Matt returns to compete this Saturday, May 14 at the Southeast Regional Spring Games in Fountain, Colorado at Fountain-Fort Carson High School. 

The Opening ceremony begins at 8:30 am with running long jump soon after at 9:15 and shot put 9:45, Matt's Favorite event the 800 meter run is scheduled at noon.

Special Olympics Colorado is hosting the Southeast Region Athletics (Track and Field) and Swimming competition on Saturday, May 14!
