Obituary

Boyd E. Nelson, 89, of La Junta, CO, passed away Thursday, July 15th, at Evergreen Gardens, La Junta, CO.

Boyd was born in DeSmet, SD on October 19, 1931, a son of the late Eleanor M. (Klein) and Sidney A. Nelson.

He received his education and graduated from the De Smet Schools.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict for 4 years.

Boyd worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA for 4 years before returning to De Smet and worked for Farmers Union, driving the rural bulk gas and fuel truck, then became the Manager for Cenex Co-Op until his retirement at the age of 55 years old.

During his retirement he became a Greens - Keeper for several years at the Kingsbury County Country Club, where he and his friends loved to play golf. Boyd also loved to fish, hunt and garden and was known for his beautiful gardens of vegetables and flowers.

Boyd decided to move to Colorado to be near his brother and his family to enjoy the rest of his life and spend special time with them.

He is survived by:
Brother Dennis, husband of Patricia Nelson, of Fowler, CO;
Niece Heather Nelson of Fowler, CO;
Nephew Troy (Tammie) Nelson of Fowler, CO;
Nephew Tracy (Amber) Nelson of Fowler, CO;
Niece Pegeen Nelson of Oregon;
Niece Nancy Nelson of Oregon;
Nephew Darek Nelson of Oregon;
Several Great - Nieces and Nephews.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Keith Nelson and a sister-in-law: Joanne.

Per his request, there will be no local services. Inurnment will be private at a later time in the De Smet Cemetery, De Smet, SD next to his parents.

Memorial Funds have been established with the Evergreen Gardens; 909 W. 10th, La Junta, CO 81050 or the Arkansas Valley Hospice; 531 Lewis, La Junta, CO 81050.
