Kyle Herring Named as Otero College Head Women’s Basketball Coach

LA JUNTA — Kyle Herring has been named as the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Otero College for the 22-23 season. Herring has over ten years of experience coaching at the college level. He began his duties on Sept. 22.

After having worked at Wesleyan College, Chipola College, South Plains College, and Cumberland University, Herring was chosen to lead the Lady Rattlers. At Chipola College, he amassed a top three NJCAA National Tournament ranking, an Elite 8 finish as well as being the 2014-15 NJCAA National Champions. At Cumberland University, he helped recruit a team who set several records for the school as well as coaching a team that was rated #18 in the country in defensive points per game (2011), #6 in the country in defensive points per game (2012), #3 in the country in field goal percentage defense (2012). While in his previous roles, he gained experience recruiting students, developing budgets, conducting surveys on retention, coordinating game schedules, helping with floor practice with emphasis on post player development, produced scouting reports, and more.

Coach Herring is currently pursuing a master's degree in sports analytics and management from American University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in History and Communication from the University of Detroit Mercy and an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies from Southeastern Illinois College.

“We are excited to announce Kyle Herring as our new head women’s basketball coach,” Athletic Director, Chris Carrillo shared. “Coach Herring comes to Otero with over 10 years of college coaching experience. Herring is excited to get things rolling with our team and we are looking forward to a great season. We have a talented young team that plays a style of basketball that fits into Coach Herring’s philosophy. He brings a great deal of knowledge not only to our women’s basketball program but to our athletic department as a whole.”
