Minutes for October 4, 2022

Tuesday evening brought in 24 members. President Greg Holt started the meeting at 7:00p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer. James Huff motioned to accept the minute with a small correction in September’s minutes. He contacted SECO only and not the radio station about the annual car club show in the La Junta Park. Leonard Walgren seconded the motion. Motion passed. Carol Allen gave the treasurer report. Once again James Huff motioned to accept as reported and Leonard Walgren seconded. Motion passed.

NEW MEMBER – Welcome Wayne Potter from North La Junta

OLD BUSINESSJames Huff wanted to THANK everyone that was involved in the annual car show in the La Junta City Park. Doug & Missy Ricken for setting up the sound system, prizes, the ladies that bought the gift bag items, the ladies that helped at the registration table, etc. and those that showed up and helped where ever needed.

There was a total of 38 registered; including cars, trucks, and 3 tractors. Looked like we had 5 new participants in the show. Two applications were given out. Thank you, Leonard Walgren, for bringing 4 vehicles to the show. Caitlyn Hansen “Almost Home Cooking” had a good turnout and will plan on setting up for next year.

In the Early Settlers Day parade there were 8 cars and 1 tractor.

Recently Richard & Elaine Wittman attended the October Fest car show held in La Veta which had roughly 40 vehicles.

NEW BUSINESS -Tarantula Days is this Saturday October 8th with a parade starting at 9:00a.m. and the SCAV Club to park on the North side of the court house.

From 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. James Huff mentioned that the Cottonwood Manor of Rocky Ford would like the club to stop by with our vehicles on Friday October 14th, 1122 S 12th Street from 9:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. Remember they feed very well to those that participate! The church treasurer contacted Alvin Grim saying that we forgot to pay our church rental for 2022. Carol Allen had a copy of cancelled checks verifying that it was taken care of; Alvin Grim will present to the treasurer ASAP.

Next month is the Chili/ Soup Supper which will be held at the Otero Museum, 706 W Third Street, La Junta Starting at 6:00p.m.

Nominations took place at this meeting. Greg Holt will be President again; Vice President is Richard Thomas; Treasurer is Carol Allen; this year we have Elaine Wittman as our new secretary. New Board Member Alvin Grim taking Dan Wagner’s place.

Leonard Walgren talked with Brock Hinkhouse at the City of La Junta and next year the poles/post at 10th and Colorado can be removed for easy access in parking and loading/unloading. Rose Grim mentioned that with the holidays coming we need to think about where we’re going to hold our Christmas party. The VFW in Ordway was one idea, another was here at the church and then cater the dinner in, also the Senior center.

Remember the Christmas gift exchange is a $15.00 item. If you want to participate, Men bring a gift for a man and the women bring for a woman. Name badges were handed out to those at the meeting. There are still badges to give out! So come to the meetings and get yours!
