SH 109 Bridge Project to begin February 27

(La Junta, CO) -- Beginning Monday, February 27, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will start construction on the State Highway 109 bridge in North La Junta. The project will span over the course of one year and involves removing the asphalt surface, repairing the deck and patching the piers.

CDOT expects the project to cost between five and 20 million dollars, with the slated completion date being February 2024. During the repair work, the bridge will be down to one lane with a temporary traffic light in place.

CDOT also reminds drivers to plan ahead, as construction and traffic can take up more time than expected. While the project is happening, drivers can expect slowdowns in traffic from early morning to late afternoon, Monday through Friday, with flaggers controlling the traffic.

CDOT is asking drivers to allow for extra time if they plan to cross the bridge.

The State Highway 109 project is the first major overhaul of the bridge in nearly 20 years, and CDOT is committed to ensuring the project is completed on time and within budget. For updates on the project's progress, drivers and local citizens are urged to check the CDOT website.
