Obituary

Sue Ann (Merwin) Pearsall was born on March 6, 1951, in La Junta, Colorado, to Clarence E. Merwin and Lora Darline (Roberts) Merwin. She was the baby of five siblings. She lived most of her life in La Junta until she married the love of her life, Dennis Ray Pearsall, in La Junta on July 20, 1969. The day a man walked on the moon, she walked down the aisle! The couple were married for 51 years until his passing in December 2020.

Sue worked most of her adult life. She worked for Valley Floral in La Junta and American Yearbook’s in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but when their daughters Melissa Sue (Pearsall) Schavers and Melinda Rae (Pearsall) Joles were born, she became a stay-at-home mom and wife, where she home schooled them. In December 1985, the family’s life changed when their house burned to the ground. They uprooted and moved to Thornton, Colorado, where she and Dennis managed an apartment complex. They then moved to Texas in 1991 where they put down roots.

Sue worked for McDonald’s, Super Six, Chicken Express, Allsup’s, Walmart Supercenter in Graham, Ace Hardware in Graham, Breckenridge ISD alongside her soulmate, and Villa Haven Nursing Home. She also worked for Pate’s Hardware until she retired in 2017 to take care of Dennis until his passing.

Sue was an active member of New Destination Church. She, Dennis, Melinda, and Melinda’s husband, Ernest, helped bring the church to Breckenridge. Her favorite Bible verse was Joshua 1:9 -- Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Sue loved her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren – they were her heart. Her grandsons include Matthew Mark Hazelwood, Johnny Ray Jimenez (and wife Nikki Jimenez), Charles Loren Moore (and fiancé Tori Coke, along with their child, Kaydance Rose Moore), Jorge Jeraldo Jimenez (and wife Skylar Dawn Jimenez, along with their children Lynnlee Pauline Fedro, Nola Joann Jimenez, and Elizette Emerald Jimenez), Geramie Lamont Carter, Elijah James Adams, and Christopher Allen Reinert (and wife Winter Reinert, along with their children, Wayne Reinert and Leeman Reinert). Her granddaughters include Josephine Marie Joles (and Micheal Ray Richardson, and their children, Isaiah Ray Richardson and Faith Renee Richardson) and Mayla Gaberiala Jimenez.

Sue was a God-taught piano, keyboard, organ, and accordion player. She absolutely loved music. Both she and Dennis loved to sing together in church and were the song leaders at the Old Assembly of God Church in Albany, Texas, in the 1990s.

She loved to crochet along with collecting angels, teddy bears, crosses, and Noah’s Ark figurines. Sue worked alongside Dennis in the yard (her two favorite flowers were daisies and roses) and cared for all their animals. Gus Gus and Bear Bear, her chihuahuas, were her loyal comforters.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, three sisters-in-law, a five-month-old son, and her husband, Dennis.

She is survived by her two daughters, one son-in-law, 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three brothers (Kenny Merwin and wife Marie), Roger Merwin, and Dwight Merwin and wife Dianna), one sister (Lorna LaRue Hare), along with many nieces and nephews.

Sue and her daughter Melinda would say to each other: I love you, I love you more, I love you to the moon and back, I love you to infinity! Momma, I love you to eternity!

Sue got her wings on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the age of 72.

A celebration of life service will be held at New Destination Church in Breckenridge on Saturday, June 3, 2023, and will begin at 1:00 p.m. Trey McDuff will officiate the service.

Memorial donations in Sue’s name can be left at New Destination Church or Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Condolences can be made online at meltonkitchens.com.
