ROOTS SUMMER EXHIBIT OPENS

By Kathleen Tomlin

June 12, 2023

The John W. Rawlings Heritage Center & Museum officially opened their summer exhibit, “Roots of the Community.” The Bent County Art Guild and the Museum co-hosted a delightful tea party and 25 people attended.

Guests appreciated raspberry and lemon teas, delicious blueberry scones and a variety of desserts. This exhibit is a fantastic collection of 30 different groups plus that made up our community, showing the past that holds us together. Door prizes were won by Mauritta Adams (cooler), Don Herman (lasagna pan), and Sherry Jasper (casserole dish).

Many of the guests came in costumes to set the mood and have some fun. Jean Smart won the costume contest with her beautiful rose old-fashioned period dress and hat; and Chris Headlee second with his authentic western character clothing. Kathleen described the history of the exhibit and thanked staff and volunteers for all their hard work in setting up the exhibit. Special thanks to Jessica Tomlin for providing roses for all the tables from her beautiful yard.

Guests enjoyed the refreshments, visiting, and strolling through the exhibit. One guest from La Junta, Phyllis Kelley, complimented us by saying, “You really know how to throw a party!” The exhibit will run through Labor Day. Call 719-456-6066, if you have any questions.
