Southeast Colorado Power Association VS Tornado Caused Outages

(La Junta, CO) -- After working through the weekend, power has been restored to the many homes in Southeast Colorado that lost it in Friday’s storm.

Southeast Colorado Power Association CEO Kevin Brandon explains the reason there were numerous outages was the tornado’s path.  The sub-stations between Baca and Prowers County are fed from a looped transmission system, half of that belongs to Tri-State and half to Southeast Colorado Power Association.  Early Friday evening, line workers dispatched to repair the lines were able to isolate Holly and Granada to get those homes and businesses turned back on.  It took all night and into the next day to restore power to everyone, however.

Where the storm did its damage was the reason so many lost electricity.

“A storm 50 miles from you can definitely affect you depending on how it’s fed by the transmission.”

Brandon thanked everyone for their support and patience while electricity was restored to the area.
