Otero College Hires Tim Bowlen as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

LA JUNTA — The Otero College Athletics Program is pleased to announce the addition of Tim Bowlen to the Men's Basketball coaching staff. Bowlen assumed his duties on July 1, 2023.

Hailing from Martinsville, Indiana, Coach Bowlen brings a wealth of knowledge to this team. Prior to his arrival at Otero College, Bowlen served as the Graduate Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Eastern New Mexico University for two years. He also worked as an intern for UCLA Men's Basketball and spent four years as the Head Manager at Indiana University, Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Bowlen earned a Masters in Sports Administration from Eastern New Mexico University, a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management, a business certificate from the Kelley School of Business, and completed a minor in coaching at IUPUI.

Although this marks his official start at Otero College, Bowlen is no stranger to the campus. He previously visited while recruiting two years ago and was drawn to the "community feel”. He shared, “I felt the energy on campus and wanted to be a part of that.”

In his spare time, Bowlen enjoys music, hiking, and watching sports.

Head Coach, Sammy Coleman shared, “We are excited to have Tim join the rattler family. He came highly recommended by a good friend of mine. He has worked under some great coaches from two different levels. He brings a lot of different skills on and off the court that will help me, the players, and the school.  He is a young and energetic coach that will have a big impact.”

Coach Bowlen has set ambitious goals for his team, including winning a regional tournament, securing the opportunity to host a regional tournament, and making it to the national tournament.
