Herb and Anita Beadles Celebrate 60th Anniversary

Herb and Anita Beadles, formerly of the Arkansas Valley are celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

They were married on August 24th, 1963, at Emmanuel Mennonite Church in La Junta.  Herb was active military at Fort Carson and Anita was teaching elementary school in Colorado Springs at the time.

Herb began teaching in Colorado Springs in 1967 and after a stint in high school, he decided to move his young family to the valley, settling in Rocky Ford and beginning his career of teaching Business at Otero College in 1974.  He and Anita made roots when they bought a farm just south of Swink.

Herb loved to farm and take care of cattle. In later years he cut wheat each summer for Salty and Nathan Schlegel.  Anita played the organ and piano at Rocky Ford Mennonite Church for years.

Anita went back to teaching at Cheraw in 1980 until her retirement in 1996.  Herb retired from Otero in 1997 after an outstanding career where he helped so many locals begin their businesses and careers.

Of course, Herb never met a stranger and they both loved to meet new people. This is where their story became more interesting, with the kids were gone and done with college so they sold the farm in Swink, moved to La Junta, and then bought a motorhome.

Imagine living in a motorhome 365 days a year, and for 25 years they crisscrossed the country in their motorhome.  Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Arizona were all frequent stops along their journey.  They would stop in Colorado for a while, but it wasn’t very long till Herb was itching to get to the next RV park.

Late last year, Herb and Anita decided it was time to move home to Colorado.  In November of last year, they moved to Colorado Springs to be close to their children, Reeda (Andy) Baturevich, Grandchildren Bryce and Katya, Wayne (Tina) Beadles, and Herb’s brother, Lowell, and his children.

Thursday night family dinners have become frequent in Colorado Springs, and they have seemed to adjust to not being on wheels.

Help us in wishing them well and reaching this momentous 60th year of marriage.

If you ever want to run into them, you can find them at the Church on the Ranch on Sunday mornings. Herb will have on his cowboy hat and mom will be by his side singing away.

They have so many memories of the great friends that crossed their paths throughout the years and look forward to more. As Anita puts it, “God has blessed us with the health, the family, and the strength to enjoy each day, even if that day is just going to coffee.”
