CSP Reports on Amtrak VS Jeep in Otero County

On Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023 at 11:10 AM Colorado State Patrol Troopers Responded to a report of a Amtrak Passenger Train crashing with a Passenger Vehicle near Oxbow State Wildlife Area just off of US Hwy 50 in Otero County. 

A Grey Jeep Wrangler driven by a 66 year old male out of Englewood Colorado struck the Amtrak Passenger Train that was traveling Westbound towards La Junta, Colorado.

Minor Damage was caused to the Amtrak Trian, the engineer and maintenance personnel checked to make sure that they were safe to proceed. According to the Colorado State Patrol report, the Jeep was drivable after the accident; a citation was issued to the driver on scene for Carless Driving. BNSF Railroad also took an incident report.

Alcohol and Drugs are not considered to be factors, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
