Springfield Student Struck by Vehicle on the Way to School

On the way to school on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 20, prior to 7:40 AM, a student from Springfield Elementary School was injured on their way to school by a vehicle on 5th Avenue.

The student came to school and needed some medical attention, which prompted some flashing lights at school.

The student’s parent(s) were contacted and they arrived to care for and comfort the kiddo. The student and family will continue care and healing. Staff and students in the building are following crisis management as children may seek information or support with any emotional details that arise.

This morning (9/20) Springfield EMS and SPD responded to an incident involving a child and a vehicle near Springfield Schools.

It was determined that a juvenile child was riding a scooter and collided into the side of a vehicle.

Thankfully the child only had minor injuries (abrasions on his knees). The child was transported to the hospital as a precaution but does not appear to have any life threatening injuries or serious bodily injury.

We have had a lot of community support and worries about the child and wanted to update the community on the incident to clear up some of the confusion.

Thank you EMS for your quick response and your awesome care!
