Suspect in Custody Following Multiple Carjackings

(COLO) – This morning at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to the area of Weld County Road 26 near Weld County Road 1 (just south of Union Reservoir) with an armed suspect after the stolen vehicle he was driving had been deactivated by OnStar.

The suspect exited the vehicle when contacted by law enforcement and at some point during the incident, the suspect gained control of an unmarked Colorado State Patrol cruiser.

The stolen patrol car was pursued by other Colorado State Patrol units, where a tactical intervention was used, partially disabling the stolen vehicle.

The suspect continued to drive the vehicle until he arrived at the Murphy’s Express (US Hwy 287 & CO Hwy 66). The suspect then quickly exited the vehicle and carjacked a Chevy Cruze. The suspect then traveled further into Longmont. Pursuing officers lost sight of the vehicle near 2nd & Main St. in Longmont.

A short time later, a fourth victim contacted Boulder Dispatch to report that their vehicle, a Dodge Ram 1500, had been stolen from this same suspect in Longmont. No visual or location was known at that time until the vehicle was spotted on Highway 7 near Lyons.

After continued efforts between the Colorado State Patrol, Longmont Police Department, and Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was located and arrested by Longmont PD and no longer a threat to the community.

The Colorado State Patrol will be the lead agency in the ongoing investigation. The suspect has been identified as Anthony McGregor out of Longmont.

McGregor will be booked on charges that include multiple counts of motor vehicle theft and other criminal charges. Suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

This is the second major incident involving a stolen State Patrol Cruiser this year.
