Bent County Sheriff VS Wanted Couple in Allegedly Stolen SUV

On Friday, December 29th, at approximately 0025 hours, Bent County Deputies were on patrol in the area of Bents Fort Inn (BFI), located at 10950 highway 50 in Las Animas, Bent County, Colorado. Deputies observed a white suv in the parking lot that was still running, with its lights on. Deputies observed the suv to not be parked in any spot and observed that it had a broken taillight.

The suv left BFI heading towards Las Animas. Upon entering the city limits of Las Animas, Deputies observed the suv traveling 65 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. Deputies contacted Dispatch and requested a cover car. Deputies continued to follow the suv, while waiting for back-up, prior to contacting the suv. While following the suv, Deputies observed multiple traffic infractions, including speeding and weaving.

On Highway 50 at mile marker 394 Deputies engaged their emergency lights and sirens and attempted to contact the suv. The suv maintained a speed of approximately 65 miles per hour momentarily. Deputies then observed the suv move into the eastbound lanes, while still travelling westbound, and the suv began accelerating. The suv kept driving westbound, in the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Deputies requested Bent County dispatch notify other agencies in the area about this incident and to advise that they were making their way to the city of La Junta, Otero County, Colorado. The suv reached speeds at approximately 85 mph and continued to travel in and out of both the westbound and the eastbound lanes.

Another Bent County Deputy was between La Junta and Las Animas at the time the pursuit began. They were able to set Stop Sticks on Highway 50 mile marker 387.

The Stop Sticks were effective and both front tires of the suv began to go flat. The suv came to a complete stop on Highway 50 at mile marker 384. Both occupants of the suv were instructed out of the suv and taken into custody without incident. Upon further investigation it was found the passenger, identified as Joseph Sais, had an active warrant for his arrest out of Pueblo County, Colorado.

The driver, identified as Deidre Tackett, had a suspended drivers license. The suv, a white Chevrolet Trailblazer, was found to be stolen from Aurora, Colorado.

While searching the suv a small amount of narcotics and drug paraphernalia was located and seized.

Joseph Sais was transported to the Bent County Jail and is being held on a $750.00 bond for his arrest warrant from Pueblo County.

Deidre Tackett was transported to the Bent County Jail and is being held on a $5000.00 bond for the following charges:
