Rocky Ford Police VS Dangerous Driver

Officers were performing traffic related duties in Rocky Ford at about 1716 hours this evening, when they made contact with the driver of a white 2004 Chevrolet Impala, regarding concerns about the validity of the license plate attached to the above mentioned vehicle.

The driver, a 54 year old male, immediately jumped back in the vehicle and left the location at a high and dangerous rate of speed, traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Swink Avenue.

Due the dangerous driving of the driver, police activated their emergency lights to alert oncoming drivers of the wrong way driver and a pursuit ensued.

At mile marker 373 the driver changed back to the correct lanes of travel and continued eastbound towards La Junta, with speeds up to 100mph.

Just west of Conley Road in La Junta, near the Walmart, the driver pulled to the shoulder and stopped the vehicle, where he was arrested without further incident.

The driver is being charged with multiple offenses, including traveling wrong way on a one way street, speeding, reckless driving, eluding and also had an outstanding warrant.

"Don’t come to Rocky if you’re going to do the wrong thing, or you’re wanted. We’re not messin’ around! You WILL be dealt with according to the respective laws."

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
