Obituary

Doug Powers of Rocky Ford passed away on January 6, 2024 at the age of 59 at his home. Doug was born in Trinidad to Perry and Gloria Powers. Doug grew up in Rocky Ford. His family owned the El Capitan in Rocky Ford and Doug started working there as a waiter.

Doug was at the El Capitan for at least 35 years. He was the long time cook there and eventually became an owner as well. When Doug was in charge of the kitchen, everyone knew that the best steaks around were at the El Capitan. He always tried to come out and greet each guest in the restaurant. They sold the restaurant in 2017.

Doug had a great sense of humor, he was always joking and laughing. He liked to make other people laugh and was a great comedian. He was a very helpful person, he would give you suggestions on how to make things better. Doug was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rocky Ford. He was a reader for mass and also helped out around the church. He also liked to work on cars as one of his hobbies. Doug was very close with his son Perry. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Doug is survived by his 2 children: Kristine (Austin Evans) Powers, Perry Powers of Rocky Ford, Mother Gloria Powers of Rocky Ford, 3 sisters: Georgia (Jay) Williams of Swink, Lydia Powers of Rocky Ford, Jeanette (Floyd) Myers of Fowler, 2 grandchildren: Carmalita Evans, Deshon Evans, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins & friends. He was preceded in death by his father Perry Powers, 2 sisters: May Powers, Evelyn Powers, 1 brother: Lawrence Powers.

Bellwood Ford Ustick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
