Obituary

Raymond "Ramon" Orlando Flores Sr., 83, of Manzanola, CO peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at his Manzanola home surrounded by his family. He was born Friday, December 27, 1940, in Fowler, CO to Pedro & Aurelia (Bernal) Flores.

Raymond attended Rocky Ford High School in Rocky Ford, Colorado, and later pursued higher education at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado. He served in the U.S Navy from 1960 to 1965 as a Petty Officer 3rd class and Wrestler, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. He was also an athletic individual and had wrestled for the U.S Navy.

After his military service, Raymond had a successful career. Retired as a machine operator for the U.S Mint. He also taught classes at Emily Griffith Opportunity School in Denver, Colorado, and worked as a maintenance worker at Crowley County Correctional Facility.

Raymond was known for his kind and generous nature. He had a great sense of humor and was always making others laugh. Raymond was a creative person who enjoyed using his skills to help others. He was proud of his accomplishments and loved his family dearly.

In his free time, Raymond enjoyed staying busy around the yard and house. He found joy in helping others and always lent a hand whenever he could.

Raymond was a devout Catholic and his faith was an important part of his life. Raymond was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Raymond will be remembered for his loving nature, sense of humor, and dedication to his family and community. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Lori Flores of the Manzanola home; daughter, Julie Valdez; son, Jonathan Cruz; grandchildren, Christopher Flores, Justin Flores, Brittany Flores, Jenna Cruz, Noah Cruz, Roselynn Cruz, and Aspynn Cruz; and many great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Flores; and sisters, Cecelia Herrera & Lillian Aragon. He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro “Pete” Flores; mother Aurelia Mary Flores; 5 brothers, 3 sisters, and son, Raymond Flores, Jr.

Viewing will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta, Colorado, Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m., both services will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, Colorado.
