CBI Investigating La Junta Shooting

The La Junta Police Department (LJPD) is working with agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in search of the person(s) responsible for multiple shots fired incidents that sent one juvenile to the hospital on February 2, 2024.

One person sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot during the incident last Friday night. The juvenile was taken to the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center for treatment and released that same night.

The shootings occurred at multiple locations: 1500 Block of Belleview Avenue (report of shots fired; however, no evidence of a shooting found), 5 th and Lewis (vehicle struck by gunfire) and the 800 block of Santa Fe Avenue (juvenile shot, non-life-threatening injuries).

The suspect may be associated with a silver sedan. The preliminary investigation indicates that the two shootings are connected.

On February 5, 2024, LJPD officers and CBI agents executed a search warrant in the 300 block of Lewis Avenue as part of the comprehensive investigation related to the shootings from the weekend. No arrests were made.

Leads are actively being investigated and law enforcement continues to interview witnesses regarding these incidents.

Anyone with information about the weekend shootings is asked to call the LJPD at 719-384-2525. Callers may remain anonymous.
