Obituary

Katherine I. Harless, 90, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great, great grandmother, aunt and friend passed away on Nov. 30, 2020 at the Crowley County Nursing Center in Ordway, CO. She was born on February 6, 1930 in Fowler to Charles Gee, Sr. and Mada (Johnson) Gee. She had two brothers, Gerald Gee and Charles Gee, Jr.; three sisters, Josephine Davis, Violet Hood, Margaret Roberts; one granddaughter, Rachael Jones; and one great-granddaughter, Mariah, all of whom predeceased her.

Katherine graduated from Manzanola High School in 1947 and fell in love with an Air Force Airman (H. C. Harless) who had just returned from WWII. On January 19, 1948, they were married in Clayton, NM, and made their home in Iowa.

A gracious, grateful, quiet, private, and lovely lady accurately describes Katherine. From creating a home in post WWII and Korean War, to transitioning female residents from the Iowa State School to live independently; many lived in her home while she taught them how to live on their own; to teaching sunday school; to becoming a broker in real estate and successfully creating and opening her own real estate company 'Harless Realty'. Katherine loved the holidays baking 100’s of dozens of cookies, cooking food and driving all over delivering to those less fortunate. She generously extended her warmth and charm to many, and shared her time, talent and leadership in real estate, Bethel Studies, the Masonic Order of Star and the Women's Movement in Cursillo. Years later, Katherine moved back to Colorado where she attended and received her real estate license for the State of Colorado from Lamar Community College. She last worked for Sanders Financial Service in Rocky Ford, CO

Katherine is survived by two daughters, Diane (Douglas) Cook of Colorado Springs and Robin (Mitch) Fryman of Waco, TX; five grandchildren, H. Matthew Grindle of MO, Simone Grindle of MO; Whitney Weissman of CO; Christopher (Pierce) Jones of NM; and Michelle Kiumper of Germany; eight great-grandchildren, Allie (Thomas) Grogan of MO; Lexie Grindle of MO; Lauren Grindle of AR; Neven Weissman of CO; Shaeli Weissman of CO; Jayden Jones of Germany; Westin Jones of NM and Dakota Jones of NM; two great-great grandchildren, Kaiden Grogan of MO and Luca Rhodes of AR; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Diane & Robin and family express heart-felt appreciation and affection to the staff at Crowley County Nursing Center in Ordway for their gentle, tender and loving care for Katherine. She loved each one of you.

All Loving and Merciful God, I pray for Your tender and deep love blessing on all mothers. Help them to lead their children to know You and to do what is good. I commend to You all mothers. Amen.

As per Katherine’s request cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
