Rocky Ford Police Assist CSP in HWY 50 High Speed Chase

During the early morning hours of March 1st, 2024, at approximately 12:56 am.  The Rocky Ford Police Department (RFPD) was notified of a red sedan that had eluded Colorado State Patrol Troopers in the area 12th St and Elm Ave. In Rocky Ford.

RFPD officer's Located the vehicle in the area of  N 11th St and Chestnut Ave, at which time the vehicle increased speed and began driving in a reckless manner, continuing East bound on Hwy 50 and a pursuit was initiated.

Officers briefly terminated the pursuit, going into the construction zone in Swink. Shortly after, the vehicle was again observed now traveling westbound on Hwy 50, back towards Rocky Ford.  

Another traffic stop was initiated and again the vehicle failed to stop. 

After briefly losing sight of the vehicle, the vehicle was found in the ditch just East of Swink.

After a brief foot pursuit, the driver was identified as Manuel Moreno, who was taken into custody without incident. 

Moreno had two failure to appear warrants for his arrest out of the Otero and Bent County Sheriff's Office with NO BOND, in which the original charges were for Weapon and Drug related charges.

Moreno was booked into the Bent County Jail on the additional following charges:

Vehicular Eluding, 18-9-116.501)(2)(a) C.R.S

Reckless Driving, 42-4-1401(1) C.R.S

Careless Driving, 42-4-1402(2)(a) C.R.S

Speeding 25-39 Over Posted Limit, 42-4-1101(1) C.R.S

Failed to Stop as Required at Stop sign,

42-4-703(3) C.R.S x 3

Drove (Motor/Off-highway) Vehicle

When License (Revoked) 42-2-138(1)(a)C.R.S.

Failed to Signal as Required, 42-4-903 C.R.S

Speeding 25-39 Over Posted Limit in Construction/School Zone), 42-4-1101(1) C.R.S.
