LJPD: 33-year-old Angel Castrejon Arrested for Walmart "Active-Shooter" Hoax
On April 6, 2024, at about 8:55 PM, the La Junta Communications Center received a 911 phone call reporting an "active shooter" was at Walmart located at 6 Conley Rd in La Junta, CO.
La Junta Police Officers responded to Walmart and contacted the 911 caller there. The 911 caller continued to report to the officers on scene that there was an active shooter at Walmart.
Officers spoke to Walmart employees and quickly determined that there were no active shots being fired and no danger to the community or threats inside Walmart.
The 911 caller, 33-year-old Angel Castrejon, was taken into custody and booked into jail on charges of falsely reporting the active shooter event and false reporting to authorities.
The La Junta Police Department would like to thank the Otero County Sheriff's Office, Colorado State Patrol, La Junta Fire Department, The 16th Judicial District Attorney's Office, and Rocky Ford Police Department for their assistance.
