Las Animas VFW Auxiliary #2411 is wrapping up their annual Wreaths Across America project with a very brief ceremony on Saturday, December 19th at 10:00 am at the Fort Lyon National Cemetery.

The National Theme this year is, “Are You An American Worth Fighting For?”

The excitement was in the air when the semi-truck arrived at Fort Lyon and another semi arrived in Las Animas. The trucks are beautiful and many of the drivers are volunteers. The VFW Auxiliary has sold wreaths for veteran’s graves at Fort Lyon National Cemetery; Bent County/Las Animas Cemetery; and Peaceful Valley Cemetery on the Smith Ranch.

wreathes across america seconews.orgThe Auxiliary receives $5.00 for each wreath sold, and then in turn use this to help veteran projects in our area. We thank all those that bought wreaths this year! The wreaths will look awesome on the newly fallen snow.

We have 620 veterans’ graves at Bent County/Las Animas Cemetery and approximately 2285 interred at Fort Lyon National Cemetery. Volunteers may help at Fort Lyon or Las Animas Cemeteries. Las Animas will start laying wreaths at 10:30 am.

If you have any questions contact Kathleen Tomlin, President, VFWA at 719-469-2721.

Darla Youngblood is the Area Coordinator for Wreaths Across America and she can be reached at 303-670-9077.

A special thanks goes out to all the volunteers that make this event possible and for those cemetery employees that help us! God bless our Veterans!
