Obituary

Florence Tomoko Maruyama was born July 28, 1926 and left her earthly life December 17, 2020 at the Bent County Healthcare Center. Her life celebrated 94 years of fond memories.

She was the daughter of Hisako and Lloyd Nakayama born in La Salle, Colorado. She was raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and graduated from N.E. High School.
Florence married Ted Maruyama March 1, 1944 in Las Animas, Colorado.

They lived and farmed in the Rixey community for many years. After leaving the farm Ted was employed with Simplot Soilbuilders and they moved to and lived in Greeley, Colorado from 1968 to 1972. In 1972 they returned to La Junta, Colorado where her husband, Ted, passed away in 1975. Florence began her career with the State of Colorado Judicial System as a Deputy Clerk and Clerk of the Court until 1991 when she retired. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Las Animas and La Junta, and served as a Deacon and Elder at the churches.

Florence is survived by four daughters, Cheryle (Frank) Schulze, Janis (Tom) Pryor, Donna (Mark) Anderson, and Patricia (Paul) Hinton; her brother, Eugene Nakayama of Houston, Texas; three sister-in laws, Kyoko (Homer) Nakayama, Virginia (Maruyama) Chapman, Dorothy (Joe) Maruyama; one brother-in-law, Allen Maruyama; Florence was blessed and very proud to have 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, they were all her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ted, three brothers and one grandson.

Her wish was cremation and services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Bent County Healthcare Center which became her home for several years and where she made many new friends and was privileged to see many of her old friends there too.
