Pueblo Police Arrest Woman After Good Samaritan Carjacking on North Elizabeth Street

On July 25, 2026, at 2:42 a.m., Pueblo Police Officers were called to the 3500 block of N. Elizabeth Street in response to a recent carjacking. The victim had stopped to help what he believed was a stranded female motorist when two males attacked him and stole his vehicle. All three suspects fled the scene.

Utilizing Cloudrunner, Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) Technology, the Pueblo Police Department Real-Time Crime Center tracked the stolen vehicle, which was located abandoned by the suspects at a motel on N. Freeway Road. Officers secured the vehicle and returned it to its lawful owner. During a search authorized by the owner, officers discovered an empty gun magazine inside which did not belong to the vehicle owner.
 
Surveillance footage from a local motel revealed the female suspect arriving at a motel near where the vehicle was recovered with a Hispanic male, and both entered a motel room together. The female was later identified as 27-year-old Ayanna Mondragon.
 
Despite efforts to contact them, the occupants did not respond to the officers outside. An arrest warrant was issued for Mondragon, and a search warrant was authorized for the motel room. The Pueblo Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team and Crisis Negotiator Team responded to the scene, and Mondragon exited the motel room. She was subsequently arrested for Motor Vehicle Theft and Robbery. The male was released pending further investigation.
 
Inside the motel room, officers recovered the keys to the stolen vehicle, personal belongings of the victim, an AR-style pistol, and a stolen 9MM pistol.
 
“This is an example of prompt and well-executed policework, where teams collaborated and utilized our Real-Time Crime Center technology to assist a victim during a great time of need,” said Chief of Pueblo Police Department Chris Noeller. “I am proud at how quickly Pueblo Police Department was able to act for an out-of-town victim, who was just trying to be a good Samaritan. Thank you to all involved”
