Minutes of the September 1 Meeting

President Wayne Potter called the meeting to order. Twenty-six members and one guest, Ken Darnell, were present. Wayne led the pledge of allegiance and Rethabel opened the meeting with prayer.

Minutes were approved as written in the newsletter and the treasurer’s report was approved as given. 

Old Business

The club took third at the Arkansas Valley Fair Parade with a check for $20. Gary Caldwell and Leonard Walgren both had trouble during the parade. Gary’s car didn’t make it through, and Leonard’s truck had radiator troubles. (A race for the hardship trophy?) A car show before the fair in downtown Rocky Ford had no participation from the club.

The cruise down to Timpas to visit the refurbished schoolhouse was well attended. Everyone enjoyed the root beer floats. he home is beautiful and well worth the trip. 

New Business

 Wayne may have to move temporarily because his father-in-law, who is 92, is very ill. He and Carrie are caretakers so only time will tell if they have to go.

Plans for the September 19 car show are firming up. Wayne has received the trophies. Jimmie and Vickie are doing the kids’ entertainment while Greg is doing the demos. Ivy Hanagan is doing the food truck, and the sno-cone lady will be there.

On Friday September 18, Cottonwood Ridge will host the car club and old vehicles from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Coffee and donuts will await attendees in the morning, and lunch will be served at noon.

The club will be in the Tarantula Days parade and the car show will be held in the north courthouse parking lot. There may be follow-up from programs at the park car show. Chuck is ordering dash plaques for this show. The parade will line up around 6th Street between 9 and 9:30. The actual parade will begin at 10 a.m. The show will be held on the north side of the courthouse.

The club would like to have a trunk or treat event with the old cars. Wayne will check with the city so we can join the larger event.

Doug is ordering caps for club members who want them. The grey hat with stars on it is the choice. Cost is $27. Doug is taking orders.

Wayne recognized September birthdays. Karen led us in singing Happy anniversary to Rethabel and James Huff, who are celebrating their 67th anniversary.

Terry went to the Ken Bay auction. Cars sold high and were pristine in their restorations.

A moment of silence for departed member Brent Murdock was held.

Bill will give more information on the Sugar City Car show in October as soon as he gets it.

The October 6th meeting will be at Otero Museum at 7:00 p.m. Hope to see you all there.

Bill Allen has reported that the Sugar City Car Show will be held October 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Sugar City. Coffee and donuts will be served at the Allen residence at 9 a.m. Lunch will be available at the firehouse for a small fee.
