Rocky Ford is a small Arkansas Valley town made famous for its cantaloupes. It's located southeast of Pueblo and 10 miles west of La Junta. Many of the buildings in town date back to the early 20th century, making it an interesting place to admire the architecture.

Part of the Rocky Ford farming history spotlight belongs to settler George Swink, who convinced his neighbors to build the first community irrigation system in the valley, forever transforming Rocky Ford into a top crop-producing landscape. The name Rocky Ford, as the story goes, came from the spot where pioneers crossed the Arkansas to safety, avoiding quicksand in other areas of the river.
The Position
The city of Rocky Ford is looking for a leader who has a passion for public service.
As a small agency, the city of Rocky Ford would be a great opportunity to lead a professional team. The Chief of police is a key member of the management team and will actively support the Rocky Ford Police Department's mission and values.
Under direction of the City Manager, the Chief will supervise all law enforcement and code compliance personnel: provide professional, quality police protection for the citizens of Rocky Ford through the administration of the Police Department.
The Rocky Ford Police Department is currently staffed with 4 employees allowing 6 full time positions for the department with the potential to increase to 9 full time positions.
The Chief of Police will be responsible for planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the Chief of Police's Office, patrol, criminal investigations, training programs, special events, management services, and record management.
Education/Experience
• Bachelors degree in police science, criminology, criminal justice, public administration or a related field is preferred.
• Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, two of which should be at the rank of Division Chief/Captain or the equivalent is preferred.
• A combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Documentation of leadership training.
Licenses/Certifications
Graduation from Police Academy or equivalent required.
Colorado Peace Officers Standards Certificate required.
Valid Colorado Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
General Purpose
Under broad policy guidance, directs and coordinated activities of the Police Department and other Public Safety activities in accordance with the authority delegated by the federal and state statutes and City ordinances, by preforming the duties personally through subordinates.
