Flag Retirement Ceremony Rescheduled for March 18th at Ft Lyon

Due to inclement weather expected Friday (cold and windy) we are going to Reschedule the Flag Retirement Originally Scheduled on the 11th to March 18th.

February 28, 2022

VFW Post & Auxiliary #2411 proudly invite the community to a “Flag Retirement Ceremony” at the Fort Lyon Homeless Coalition west side parking lot on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 3pm.  The veterans at Fort Lyon have extended a special invitation to us for this event.

A Freedom Cruise will take place leaving the VFW Post at 2:30 pm for the drive to Fort Lyon.  Vehicles will gather at 2:20 pm at the Post and leave promptly at 2:30 pm, led by Doug and Missy Ricken – everyone welcome!

You can bring your American flags that are worn out and need retired, or if you cannot attend, drop them at the Post or put them in the flag box at the Bent County Courthouse.

At 3pm we will post the colors, have a brief explanation, teach everyone how to fold the flags properly, and then burn them respectfully.

We are inviting youth in the community to join us and participate, and everyone can learn the proper way to fold and retire flags.  If you have any questions, contact Jess Garcia, Commander, VFW, or Kathleen Tomlin, President, VFW Auxiliary.  God bless our Veterans and God Bless America!!
