La Junta Fire Department: Wildfires Expected to be 100% Contained Tonight 4/16/22

Firefighters made great progress on the Bents Fort and Fort Lyons fires today. Crews anticipate being able to call both fires 100% contained by the end of shift this evening. Neither fire grew today; The Bents Fort Fire remains 1648 acres and the Fort Lyons Fire is 2926 acres. Firefighters will remain present in the area over the coming days to patrol the fires’ perimeter and address any remaining heat inside the established control lines.

Rocky Mountain Area Complex Incident Management Team Three will return command of both fires to the capable hands of the respective managing agencies at 6:00 p.m. today. The incident management team thanks the community for the warm welcome and the local resources for all of their hard work throughout the incidents.
