Obituary

Juan Refugio “Cuco” Lopez Galindo, 82, of La Junta, passed away on May 20, 2022, at the Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. He was born on June 24, 1939, in Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico to Fernando Lopez & Josefa Galindo.

Cuco worked as a ranch hand most of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors and working with all the animals, especially the horses. He loved going for walks multiple times a day, his first and favorite walk of the day was to the local post office. During his walks he would stop and visit with friends he would run into. Everyone he saw would receive a handshake, a wave hello or a friendly smile. His most enjoyable hobby was watching the Rodeo and his Spanish Programs. Cuco faithfully attended Sunday morning Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Catholic Church.

He is survived by his children, Leonardo Lopez, Gerardo Lopez, Ramon Octavio Lopez, Consuelo Lopez, Maria Luisa Lopez, Maria del Refugio Lopez & Maria Christina Lopez, stepdaughters, Maria Estrada of La Junta; Monica (Daniel) Mendoza of Denver; brothers, Jose Pedro Lopez & Juan Antonio Lopez both of Juarez, Mexico; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 20 step-grandchildren; 16 step-great- grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews and also his loving dog Oso. He was preceded in death by his parents, significant other, Maria Juanita Vigil; brother, Agustin Lopez; sister, Maria de Jesus Lopez; stepson, Arnold "Arny" Vigil; stepson-in-law, Mel Estrada; step grandsons, Karlos Vasquez, I & Shannon Trujillo; step great-granddaughter, Chasity Archuleta; step great-grandson, Brennon Trujillo; step great, great-granddaughter, baby Tommie Archuleta.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, May 27, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
